One of the most frustrating things about this challenge, and trying to keep a blog in general, is having too many ideas about what to write come at inconvenient times. Usually, these ideas come at a time when I am nowhere near my computer, and I am in the middle of something and I can’t write anything beyond a short note to refer back to.
I made it to seven posts! I wish I had the energy and mental capacity to write something deep and meaningful to celebrate this milestone, but I came back home late today and am tired so…I figured instead of complaining about how tired I am, i would use this moment for some quick gratitude.
One of the challenges of going back to an on-site, full-time job is having to change my schedule completely. Before, with all my gigs and contracts, there were no hard boundaries between work and play. I would be working out at the gym at 11 a.m., followed by 3-4 hours of work, ending my day with one of my hobbies and then going to bed at 12 a.m. The next day I would wake up, maybe do 4-8 hours of work, go to the gym at 9 p.m., and then go to bed at 2 a.m. A lot of my scheduling was on a whim and I very much lived on the philosophy of, as long as I get my stuff done by the deadline, it doesn’t matter what my day-to-day looks like. And while I LOVED that flexibility, I did miss having a routine and consistent structure to my day; a structure that a dedicated 8-to-5 job would bring.
I haven’t even started writing the post for today and I can already feel how weird it’s going to be. I don’t know how to start this. I also don’t even know how to feel about putting this facet of my life out there like that.
So it has been a whole week + 1 day since my last post. And by the original vision and terms, I failed my own challenge within 3 days. That being said–I do not regret taking the week off from writing because it really allowed me to enjoy my time in D.C. without compromising the time I had with my friends. It also allowed me to properly recover from HYROX because shoot…I was not in the mental state to try writing coherently.
I was a little bit worried whether I would have the time and energy to be writing and posting today. To be honest, I am tired, and a little bit regretting of putting that 100-word minimum for this challenge.
I know summer isn’t officially over until September 22, and unofficially after Labor Day, yet the grief of this summer wrapping up is taking a little more of a toll on me than any other year for the first time in a while.
Happy first day of September, which means the first day of this challenge. And already, we’re off to a great start (she tells herself as she is trying to write this an hour before midnight).
I literally had this idea just as I was cleaning my kitchen/living room space and ruminating on the guilt for not putting a little more effort and structure into blogging this year.
