Blogtember Day 6 - New Job & New Structure

Workin 8-5

One of the challenges of going back to an on-site, full-time job is having to change my schedule completely. Before, with all my gigs and contracts, there were no hard boundaries between work and play. I would be working out at the gym at 11 a.m., followed by 3-4 hours of work, ending my day with one of my hobbies and then going to bed at 12 a.m. The next day I would wake up, maybe do 4-8 hours of work, go to the gym at 9 p.m., and then go to bed at 2 a.m. A lot of my scheduling was on a whim and I very much lived on the philosophy of, as long as I get my stuff done by the deadline, it doesn’t matter what my day-to-day looks like. And while I LOVED that flexibility, I did miss having a routine and consistent structure to my day; a structure that a dedicated 8-to-5 job would bring.

Now that I have that routine with this new job, I am…struggling. Which is to be expected and was the case when I got my first sales associate job right after my layoff from tech. So these growing (?) pains are normal.

But am I still very sad that I came back from work dead tired and still had things to do and could not squeeze in a workout before needing to get ready for bed?

Yup.
